It had been almost two years since the last time I woke up without a headache. My sinuses were incessantly clogged. Ear infections arrived every other week. I slept 16 hours a day. I had to sit on the floor to tie my shoes, because if I leaned over too far, I would blackout.
I moved home to live with my parents because I couldn’t work. And this was supposedly the “prime” of my life – my mid-20’s, when I should have been at peak performance.
After months of doctor’s visits, courses of antibiotics and anti-inflammatories, it was only getting worse.
I was told I would need surgery to open up my sinuses, and that I would likely have to stay on anti-inflammatory medication the rest of my life.
Out of desperation, I tried one last thing: changing what I ate. No processed food, no restaurants, just simple, real food—meat, vegetables, fruit. (I recently heard a great quote, “Real food doesn’t have ingredients. It is an ingredient.”)
Fast-forward one year…”Oh, this is what the prime of your life is supposed to feel like.”
No headaches! No ear infections! No surgery! No medications! Full of energy! Sleeping well!
All because I started paying attention to what I was eating.
That’s when it clicked—food isn’t just calories. It’s medicine (or toxin). And it changed the entire course of my life.
The most fascinating part to me is that I hear this same story over and over again. Different symptoms for each person, but the same “miraculous” healing after placing a greater priority on diet…without surgeries and medications!!!
After spending so much time and energy learning about food and diet, I ultimately realized that I needed food that I could trust.
Next week, I’ll share how this journey led me to regenerative agriculture and to starting Wild Harmony Farm.
